I am very pleased to offer the latest releases from Azienda Agricola Montevetrano. The Vineyard is situated in the Campania region of Southern Italy. Proprietor Silvia Imparato is one of the early pioneers in the world of Campanian oenology. She enlisted the help of consulting oenologist Riccardo Cotarella, and together they created Montevetrano, the wine that launched Campania in a big way around the world. The 26-hectare (64-acre) family estate was established in the mid-1980s and today makes wine from a blend of the local variety Aglianico with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Robert Parker first discovered the wines in the 1990’s. With comments from him like “This winery has become one of the superstars of Italy”, it has had a lot of attention over the years. Since then other reviewers including Antonio Galloni (VM), Ian D’Agata (VM), Monica Larner (WA) and James Suckling (JS) have followed and liked the wines.
A few vintages back Montevetrano starting producing a wine called Core. It is made from grape varieties that are indigenous to the region. The Red is 100% Aglianico and the White is a blend of equal parts Fiano and Greco. The wines are delicious, very well priced and highly recommended.

Reviews as follows from Ian D’Agata (Vinous.com).
95 points…..”Fully saturated ruby-purple. Gunpowder green tea, flint, cocoa, coffee, blueberry and blackberry jam on the knockout nose. Smooth, elegant, rich and round, this big, dense wine has a massive but refined presence, thanks to its uncanny, lovely sugar/acid/tannin balance. Finishes long with lingering concentration and density, not to mention a multilayered appeal that is hard to deny. Very well done. “-Ian D’Agata, Vinous.com
Of note, Ian D’Agata gave the 2017 a higher score than the 2016 and 2015 which were seen as exceptional vintages in Italy.

94 points…..”Very deep purple-ruby; this is very dark for an Aglianico wine. Delicate on the nose and remarkably light on its feet, offering sweet blueberry, red cherry, sweet spice and floral flavors, similar to the aromas that linger impressively on the juicy, long, clean finish. A knockout wine, and the best Aglianico ever from Montevetrano.“-Ian D’Agata, Vinous.com
Cases 6 x 75cl, 2017 Montevetrano Campania Bianco IGT Core @ £80 per case 6 IB
89 points….”Bright straw. Aromas of pomaceous orchard fruit and herbs. Clean, round and ripe, featuring orchard fruit flavors that are luscious but lively and saline. Not the last word in complexity, but very well balanced and smooth. Well done.“-Ian D’Agata, Vinous.com
